How it works

Four quiet steps, live in the service.

Devar runs alongside the service, not in the middle of it. Setup takes two minutes. Operation takes one hand.

01

Start the service

Open the dashboard, enter the service title and speaker, choose your translation and projector theme, then click Begin. Devar is ready before the first hymn ends.

02

Transcribe locally

Click Start transcribing. Audio is captured from your microphone or mixer feed and processed on your machine — with Moonshine or Whisper — in rolling 15-second chunks. No audio leaves the room.

03

Receive suggestions

Every few seconds, Devar scores your full Bible index against the rolling transcript context and surfaces the five most relevant verses — ranked by confidence, refreshed live.

04

Project in one click

Click a suggestion (or search manually) to project it. The verse appears instantly on your projector view in the theme you chose — clean, typographic, nothing else on screen.

Features

Everything the booth needs. Nothing it does not.

Devar is built for a single job: getting the right verse on screen at the right moment. Every feature earns its place.

Live local transcription

Choose from 8 on-device models — Moonshine Tiny through Whisper Large — or route to OpenAI or Google Chirp for maximum accuracy. All processing runs on your machine.

Real-time verse scoring

A BM25 index spans your full Bible. Devar scores every verse against a rolling context window and refreshes candidates every few seconds, keeping pace with the sermon.

Lock & pin verses

Pin a candidate you want to keep on deck. Locked verses stay visible at the top of the suggestion column regardless of what the transcript context shifts to.

Manual verse search

Type a reference like "Romans 8:28" or search by phrase. Results appear instantly. You can project from search results the same way as from suggestions.

Prayer pause

Toggle Prayer pause during intercessory prayer to stop re-ranking and hold the current suggestion set. One keystroke — no suggestions shuffling while the congregation prays.

Full service history

Every projected verse is logged with its timestamp, translation, source, and surrounding transcript context. The complete service timeline is available immediately after the service ends.

Audio archive & replay

Devar archives the WAV recording alongside your transcript and verse history. Replay the full sermon with a synced transcript and verse timeline — or export as MP3.

AI sermon summary

After the service, generate a structured summary — main theme, key scriptures, teaching points, illustrations, and practical applications — ready for a bulletin or newsletter.

Keyboard-first operation

Navigate suggestions, lock verses, project, and seek through audio without touching a mouse. Designed for operators who need their eyes on the screen, not the keyboard.

Projector

Four themes. Every sanctuary.

Dark, Light, Minimal, and Elegant — each tuned for a different room, lighting setup, and camera. Toggle between them live from the dashboard or the projector control bar.

Font size, text alignment, and reference visibility are configurable per-theme. The projector view opens in a separate window — just drag it to your secondary display and go fullscreen.

The whole sermon, preserved.

When the service ends, Devar archives the audio recording, full transcript, and complete verse history together. Every projected verse is timestamped and linked to the surrounding transcript context.

Replay the sermon with the audio player and synced transcript — or generate a structured AI summary in one click, ready for a church bulletin, newsletter, or social post.

Translations

Pure KJV focus. Indexed for speed.

Devar is optimized for the King James Version. Every verse is indexed locally for instant ranking and semantic matching, ensuring the pastor's words always find the right scripture.

By focusing on a high-fidelity KJV index, Devar maintains 100% offline accuracy without the overhead of multiple competing translations.

John 3:16 across translations
KJV

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

What media teams say after a few Sundays.

We used to assign one person to scripture graphics every service. With Devar, that person is back in worship.

The suggestions are unnervingly good. It picked up a reference to Isaiah I did not even realize the pastor was making.

The projector view is reverent. It looks like scripture, not a tech demo. That matters to our congregation.

FAQ

Common questions.

No. Transcription, verse scoring, and projection all run locally on your backend machine. The operator dashboard and projector view work offline-first. An internet connection is only needed if you choose to use OpenAI or Google Cloud transcription models, or if you enable cloud archive storage.
For most churches, Moonshine Base or Whisper Small offer the best balance of speed and accuracy. On modest hardware, Moonshine Tiny transcribes in near real-time. For maximum accuracy in a quiet recording environment, Whisper Medium or Large will produce the cleanest output. All models run fully on-device.
You supply your own licensed JSON files for NKJV, KJV, NIV, and NLT. Devar does not include or distribute any licensed Bible text. Upload your files in Settings → Translations. Devar validates the file format and builds a full-text search index automatically.
No. The operator dashboard and the projector view are entirely separate windows. Drag the projector view to your secondary display and go fullscreen — the congregation sees only the clean, themed verse display. No chrome, no interface, no status indicators.
When a pastor begins intercessory prayer, the speech context can shift in a way that produces irrelevant verse suggestions. Toggle Prayer pause to freeze the suggestion set in place until prayer ends. One keystroke — no shuffling suggestions while the congregation is mid-prayer.
After a service, click Generate summary in the sermon archive page. Devar transcribes the archived audio with Whisper and sends the transcript to the OpenAI API (using your configured API key). GPT-4o produces a structured summary covering the main theme, key scriptures, teaching points, illustrations, and practical applications. The summary can be shared via email or social media directly from the page.
When you end a live transcription, Devar archives the WAV recording alongside the full transcript and verse history to your configured Supabase storage bucket. The archive is tied to your account — only you can access it. From the sermon detail page, you can replay the audio with a synced scrolling transcript, download it as MP3, or export the transcript in Markdown, Word, or PDF.
Yes — the Diocese plan supports unlimited operator accounts and multi-campus management. Each campus can have its own theme, translation settings, and service history. Contact us to discuss your setup.
Your account and service data remain accessible for 30 days after cancellation, giving you time to export everything. After that, data is permanently deleted from our servers. Audio archives stored in your own Supabase bucket are never touched — those remain under your control.
